Invest in Kingston Park Playground Safety and Amenities
The Issue
As a local resident and a mother of two, it pains me to see the current state of Kingston Park Play area in Newcastle upon Tyne. The playground, which should be a vibrant and safe haven for local children and families, is instead a neglected and hazardous space, preventing children like mine from enjoying it. This park is the only accessible playground for so many families in our community, making its improvement absolutely essential.
There are missing play items like swings and see-saw seats, regular litter which includes broken glass, burnt patches, and holes in the ground that pose a risk of injury. Additionally, there are several items of equipment that have become unsafe over time. These are not just minor inconveniences, but significant safety hazards that deter families from utilising the park.
Investing in this park is an investment in our community's wellbeing. By repairing and revamping Kingston Park, we can provide children with a safe, enjoyable space that encourages physical activity and social engagement.
Proposed improvements include the installation of swings for both young toddlers and older children, a slide, and safer climbing equipment that meets modern safety standards in a more suitable area - perhaps closer to the community centre, with measures in place similar to other play areas to prevent vandalism, such as higher gates and closure at night., adequate lighting, and community involvement.
A well-kept park benefits not just the children, but the entire community. It fosters a sense of belonging, encourages healthy outdoor activity, and strengthens community ties. Ensuring safe, clean, and engaging play areas means that families feel valued and prioritised. This is vital for both current residents and to attract new families to our area.
Let's appeal to the Newcastle City Council to take immediate action to invest, repair, and improve Kingston Park Play area. There are plans to improve parks across Newcastle and we should be included. Especially given the amazing transport links and the newly improved shopping area bringing in more footfall. Sign this petition to show your support for our children and community and turn Kingston Park into a safe and welcoming environment for all.
