Introduce more halal school lunch options

The Issue

Growing up in a diverse community, I've learned the importance of inclusivity and equality in all aspects of life. Watching my friends from the Muslim community face a daily struggle over something as basic as school lunch has been hard to bear. At our school, Muslims are either pressured to go against their religious beliefs by consuming non-halal food due to hunger or they skip meals altogether. This harsh reality not only neglects the needs of our Muslim peers but also undermines our school's commitment to equality and diversity.

Halal food is crucial for many Muslim students, and having it available in school cafeterias would mean much more than just providing a meal. It would mean respecting different cultural and religious needs, promoting inclusivity, and fostering an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive academically and socially without compromising their beliefs.

Many schools around the world have successfully implemented a halal meal program, and it's time our school steps up to do the same. Offering halal meals does not have to be a complicated or costly endeavor. We can work with catering services to ensure that some meats are halal-certified, which is a simple adjustment with significant benefits.

Highdown is more than just a place for education—it's a community where every student should feel welcomed and respected. By introducing more halal meals into  school lunches, we ensure that Muslim students don't have to choose between hunger and their faith. They can focus on their education and partake in school life equally.

Let's make Highdown School a pioneer in promoting equality and inclusivity. Join us in urging our school's administration and catering team to make the school more equal for the muslims in this school. Sign this petition to support a more inclusive, fair, and respectful environment for everyone.
