Two weeks ago, the Arnie’s Law Working Group met with Jonty Bush MP to formally begin progressing Arnie’s Law toward Parliament.
Following that meeting, Jonty has written to the Attorney-General requesting a meeting with the AG and policy advisors to discuss the proposed reforms. We are currently awaiting a response.
Importantly, Jonty is hoping to speak on Arnie’s Law during the March sitting of Parliament, a critical opportunity to place this reform firmly on the legislative agenda.
Our discussions have also expanded to broader issues impacting companion animals, including the concerning reduction in animal cruelty convictions since oversight moved to the Department of Primary Industries.
We know that stronger laws mean little without effective enforcement. That’s why judicial education may form part of our campaign, ensuring Magistrates are equipped to apply animal welfare legislation consistently and meaningfully.
This is progress. This is momentum. And we are not slowing down.
Thank you to our supporters who continue to stand behind Arnie’s Law.
