Petition: Introduce a cap on energy price increases for essential household energy

We call on the UK Government to introduce stronger regulation to cap energy price increases for essential household gas and electricity, particularly during periods where major suppliers report record profits.

Despite repeated claims of record earnings, energy costs for households continue to rise, contributing to fuel poverty, financial stress, and declining living standards. Gas and electricity are essential services required for heating, cooking, and basic living, and should not be treated purely as profit-maximising commodities.

The UK has the resources and infrastructure to ensure energy affordability, yet current regulatory frameworks allow suppliers to pass costs directly to consumers while protecting corporate profitability. We believe stronger price-increase caps, linked to profits and wholesale costs, are necessary to protect households and prevent avoidable poverty.

We urge the Government to review existing energy regulation and introduce enforceable limits on price increases for essential domestic energy supply.
