International Medical Graduates in Canada should have the opportunity to assist with the COVID-19 response

The current COVID pandemic is underway in Canada, and our health care infrastructure is preparing for unprecedented stress on its resources. I believe IMGs in Canada are currently an underutilised skilled health resource and can prove to be invaluable in the present scenario.

At a time when Canada is taking all measures to respond to this situation, we ask that you allow IMGs to support our physicians in order to keep up a full-fledged response against the COVID pandemic.
They have petitioned the federal minister of health Patty Hajdu, which has garnered over 12,000 signatures, from across Canada, in a week. This demonstrates the widespread public support (myself included) for IMGs assisting with the COVID-19 response in Canada.

Furthermore, at a time when medical residents are being licensed early, retired physicians and those with lapsed licenses are being asked to re-register, it would be remiss to not include IMGs as a part of the contingency plans.
