The Issue

The lack of stop lights or buffer zones at the McCoy/Quito intersection in Saratoga causes major traffic and danger as cars try to enter from four directions at once. Furthermore, many of the kids who bike or walk to either Westmont Highschool or Rolling Hills Middle School use the crosswalk to get to school. Vehicles on Quito Street keep moving while others wait up to five minutes or more for a break. This leads to delays and puts pedestrians—especially elderly, students and children—in danger. Many kids also use the crosswalk to reach the YMCA, their friends, or the Westgate Center, making the risk even greater. Long wait times often cause drivers to make reckless choices. Traffic is worst from 8–9 AM and 4–7 PM, when families are commuting. I’ve experienced these delays myself while heading to school & extracurricular's, often making me late. The danger is highest during these hours, as many cars carry parents and children. Given these points, please help by signing the petition to make Saratoga a safer place.
