Install traffic calming on Porterstown Road

The Issue

WE NEED SPEED BUMPS

Fingal County Council PLEASE install traffic calming measures along the Porterstown Road, particularly before and after the pedestrian crossings at Castleknock GAA and Porterstown Park. These are now accident black spots.

There have been 5 car accidents over the last 5 years and 2 children hit by cars in last 2 months:

  • undated: A car mounted the path and ended up in the bushes near the Castleknock Hotel, you can still see the gap in the bushes all these years later.
  • undated: on two separate occasions, cars have crashed into the corner of the Castleknock Hotel and Sommerton Lane
  • Sept 2019: A car mounted the path &  ploughed into the entrance of Diswellstown Manor estate (pictured)
  • March 2023: a driver flipped their car coming into the s bend early on St Patrick’s Day morning (pictured)
  • April 2024: A young girl (13) was knocked down just outside the Porterstown Park gate, her wrist and pelvis were fractured.
  • June 2024: A little boy (7) was knocked down near the GAA side entrance and severely injured.

Castleknock GAA has 3500 members

Porterstown Park is home to MSB Athletics Club, Castleknock Celtic, Anatomic Fitness and Castleknock Cricket Club and Porterstown parkrun.

Diswellstown Manor is home to 118 families with a large green area facing the road.

There will be more accidents unless we make the road safe.

We need all six local county councillors to include our request on the next agenda for Castleknock/ Mulhuddart Fingal operations meeting.
