Our beloved Lemay Park and Jefferson Barracks, once a safe space within our community, has recently seen a surge in worrying activities. We suffered a tragic loss in our community due to an incident at lemay park. This, along with frequent fights and drug use, has brought about a climate of fear, making parents reluctant to allow their children to the local park during certain times. Our community deserves better.

With safety as our primary concern, we believe the installation of surveillance cameras and lights in the park can help prevent crimes and assist in the enforcement of the law when crime does occur in the area. Surveillance cameras and lights can serve as a deterrent to criminal activities, making our park secure again. 

According to a study by the Urban Institute, crime rates in public spaces with cameras decreased by more than half in Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington D.C. We see no reason why the same positive effect cannot be replicated in Lemay Park.

It is time we regained the safe atmosphere we once enjoyed at Lemay Park and walking around JB. This petition is our collective appeal to the city council to install surveillance cameras and lights at JB and Lemay Park as soon as possible.
