The Issue

Marple Aqueduct is a beautiful, historic landmark, but it has also become a place of profound tragedy. Over the years, far too many families have lost loved ones here. We need to act now to prevent further loss of life.

We are calling on Stockport Council, the Canal & River Trust, and Historic England to work together urgently to install discreet, high-tensile safety netting or appropriate suicide prevention barriers on the aqueduct.

While we fully respect and value the Grade I listed status of this historic monument, human life must always take priority. Modern, sensitive safety engineering can protect both the heritage of the aqueduct and the vulnerable people in our community.

Please sign this petition to show our local leaders that the community wants action, safety, and compassion at Marple Aqueduct. Every signature helps us force a formal safety review.
