On March 22, 2025, our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and  friend ,Deztiny Rodriguez, only 18 years old, lost her life because of a reckless speeding driver who didn’t even stop to render aid. This tragedy unfolded on a road in Fresno, TX,  ( Evergreen)where people habitually ignore the speed limit of 30 mph. The lack of concern for safety has plunged our community into a state of fear and vulnerability.

The roads are meant to connect us safely from one place to another, but in their current state, they pose a significant threat to our loved ones, our children, our pets, and all residents. The heartache of losing a family member to something preventable is too much to bear, and no other family should have to endure the pain we have.

The installation of speed bumps or other safety mechanisms, such as traffic cameras or flashing speed limit signs, can make a drastic difference in saving lives. These measures are not only doable but imperative.

Statistics show that speed bumps can reduce the rate of accidents by up to 60%. They serve as a physical reminder for drivers to respect speed limits and drive responsibly. Other communities have successfully implemented these changes and recorded a significant drop in accidents and speeding incidents.
