Currently, the absence of sufficient pedestrian control measures, such as a well-regulated traffic light, poses a significant risk to all who pass through this intersection daily. It's clear that the status quo is not enough to guarantee the safety of pedestrians in Ypsilanti Township. 

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that intersections with proper pedestrian signaling and controlled crossings can reduce accidents by up to 40%. Installing a traffic light with enhanced pedestrian crossings at this busy intersection would not only ensure the safety of pedestrians, particularly our children, but it would also serve as a proactive step towards protecting all road users.

Addressing this issue requires immediate action from the local authorities. We urge the Ypsilanti Township City Council, Ypsilanti Township Board of Trustees, and the Department of Public Works to prioritize this matter and allocate necessary resources towards installing a traffic light with safer pedestrian crossings at Merritt and Tuttle Hill Rd. By taking this step, we can prevent further loss and ensure the community remains a safe, walkable, and welcoming environment for everyone.
