The Issue

Our parents were tragically killed in a horrific crossover vehicle crash in Hardin County on the Bluegrass Parkway on December 7th, 2024. That accident involved 4 vehicles and led to 3 fatalities, including our parents. A vehicle, crossing the median, hit them head-on. Our family was shattered that day, and we are reaching out to ensure no other family has to endure the heartache and loss we’ve experienced.

The stretch of road between mile markers 1 and 13 in Hardin County through Nelson County has seen numerous fatal crossover accidents in recent years. The lack of median barriers has made this part of the Bluegrass Parkway particularly dangerous, and we believe immediate action must be taken to prevent further tragedies. Lives have been lost, and families have been forever changed because vehicles are able to cross over into oncoming traffic without any protective barriers to stop them.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, median barriers can reduce crossover collisions by up to 90%. By installing barriers, we can dramatically decrease the likelihood of future accidents and make this road safer for everyone.

We are calling upon the Kentucky Department of Transportation to take swift action and ensure that protective barriers are installed on this perilous stretch of highway. The safety and well-being of Hardin County residents and all who travel this route must be prioritized.

Join us in urging the Kentucky Department of Transportation to install these life-saving barriers. Please sign this petition to protect our community and prevent further needless loss of life.
