The Issue

As a regular pickleball player and active member of the Veterans Community Park pickleball community in Naples, Florida, I have personally witnessed how incredibly popular and unfortunately overcrowded the pickleball courts have become. It's disheartening to see eight perfectly usable courts left in the dark each evening, while players must compete for space on the limited six lighted courts nearby. The absence of lighting not only limits our playtime but also access for working residents and families who can only play after dark.

Pickleball is more than just a sport to us; it is a vibrant community activity. It unites residents of all ages and abilities, fostering a welcoming environment where people can stay active, build friendships, and improve their health. Currently, the lack of lighting on these courts is a barrier to participation and enjoyment, negatively impacting not just me but all local enthusiasts.

Collier County has an opportunity to rectify this situation. While various parts of Veterans Community Park are already equipped with modern lighting, the pickleball courts unfortunately lag behind. Installing energy-efficient LED lights would extend court usability into the evening, alleviate overcrowding, and ensure equal access to pickleball for everyone in our community. LED lighting is not only environmentally friendly but also cost-effective in the long run, reducing energy expenses compared to traditional lighting solutions.

I urge Collier County officials to prioritize installing LED lighting on the eight unlit courts at Veterans Community Park. Funding for this project could potentially be sourced from local government budgets, community grants, or public-private partnerships. Similar initiatives have been successfully undertaken in other recreational facilities, demonstrating that this is a realistic goal that can be achieved with community support.

Please help us create a more inclusive and enjoyable pickleball environment by signing this petition. Your signature can make a difference for all pickleball players in Naples who deserve to enjoy extended court time and improved facilities. Thank you for your support!
