Install average speed cameras and fencing on the A46

Install average speed cameras and fencing on the A46
The Issue
An unforgettable tragedy took place in my life when my beloved Trixie, my dog that was a part of my family, ran away and got onto the A46 motorway, only to meet with a tragic end. We just got her from the shelter just 1 month ago, a very anxious and scared little girl. We travelled from Coventry to Liverpool to get her, cause the moment we saw her picture on the website we knew she is ours and we are hers. The first day we got her home it felt like a miracle, she finally had a home of her one, with her bed, toys and what ever food she liked. It's been a magical month, she was so happy, playful, she was so smart și she brought joy and smiles to everyone who saw her. We were just getting ready to take her to training, to help her with the anxiety and her getting scared of everything. And then that tragic day came, she got scared of me falling on some ice and she took off. We looked for her for hours until 3 in the morning. We look everywhere, put posters up, posted on every Facebook group possible. And then we got the worst news ever, a dog that looked like her was spotted dead on the side of the road. She wandered in the road scared, hungry and cold, she didn't know what's going on, and if there was some fencing there to stop her getting on the road maybe me and someone could have found her the next day. But she died and nobody stoped to take her to a vet, nobody called the police or move her from the road at least, you can imagine what we found! She didn't deserve this ending! It breaks my hearth just writing this words knowing she is no more, I still see her everywhere i look. So i beg you to sign this petition so maybe no other soul will have her tragic faith!
This heart-wrenching incident has become all too common on the stretch between the A428 and A45 junctions, leaving families devastated and prompting a need for urgent action.
Motorists frequently exceed speed limits on this section, putting both human and animal lives at risk. On average, three pets lose their lives here every week because there are walking paths on both sides of this busy motorway. The lack of adequate fencing allows them to occasionally stray onto the road, with dire consequences.
It's crucial that we address these dangers by implementing solutions that ensure the safety of both drivers and animals. We propose the installation of average speed cameras along this stretch of the A46 to deter speeding and enhance road safety. This proven method of enforcing speed limits has already saved lives in various parts of the UK and can be effective here too.
Moreover, erecting sturdy fencing along both sides of the motorway will create a barrier that prevents pets and wildlife from wandering onto the road, reducing the risk of tragic accidents. By securing the perimeter in this way, we can protect our pets, wildlife, and drivers alike from preventable harm.
Every life is precious, and taking these steps can significantly enhance the safety and security of our community. It is time for the local authorities to recognize this recurrent issue and act to safeguard everyone who uses or lives near the A46.
Your support is vital in making these changes a reality. I urge you to sign this petition urging the responsible authorities to install average speed cameras and appropriate fencing along the A46 stretch between the A428 and A45 junctions. Together, let’s make our roads safer for everyone.
