The Issue

The L‑2212, stretching from Milltown to the bustling town of Dunmore, is a road I've travelled regularly. Like many others, I've witnessed firsthand the inherent dangers on this stretch. With numerous junctions and bends, drivers may not immediately notice the 60 km/h speed limit. This is especially concerning when transitioning from faster Regional or National roads, where speeds are significantly higher.

The lack of sufficient speed limit reminders can lead to drivers unintentionally exceeding the limit, posing a severe risk of collisions. Visibility on certain parts of L‑2212, particularly around bends and junctions, is quite limited. This exacerbates the threat to the safety of all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists who regularly use this route.

According to the Road Safety Authority, speed is a leading factor in road-related accidents in Ireland. The installation of additional repeater speed limit signs could significantly improve driver awareness and reduce the likelihood of accidents on this stretch of road. It would serve as a constant reminder for drivers to reduce their speed to the safe and legal limit, thereby enhancing safety.

This call for action is not just about adhering to the law, but safeguarding our community. Installing these signs is a simple, yet effective measure to ensure that everyone using this road can do so with a heightened sense of security. It is a proactive step towards reducing accidents and potentially saving lives.

Join me in urging local authorities to take swift action in enhancing the safety of the L‑2212. By signing this petition, you are supporting a move towards making our roads safer and protecting the community.
