Install Additional Bike Lock Rings at 60 Sumach Street to Support Safe Cycling Access
The Issue
Summer is here, and cyclists in the Sumach Street area are facing a growing challenge: there is not enough secure bicycle parking to meet demand.
60 Sumach Street is home to Pluto, a community hub, event space, and coworking venue that welcomes residents, visitors, and guests from across Toronto. Many people choose to arrive by bicycle, yet the existing bike parking infrastructure is insufficient.
Currently, there are only a few public bike rings on Sumach Street near the building, and they are frequently occupied. Cyclists often arrive to find no available space to securely lock their bikes. As a result, many are forced to lock bicycles to fences, signs, or other unsuitable infrastructure, or choose not to cycle at all.
This issue extends beyond a single building. Sumach Street is an important cycling corridor, and demand for bicycle parking continues to grow as more Torontonians embrace active transportation. Providing adequate bike parking is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to support cycling, reduce vehicle trips, improve accessibility, and advance Toronto’s environmental goals.
We respectfully ask the City of Toronto and Ward 13 Councillor Chris Moise to install additional public bike rings in front of and near 60 Sumach Street.
Adding five to ten additional bike rings would:
- Improve access for cyclists visiting local businesses and community spaces
- Reduce bicycle theft risks by providing secure locking points
- Support active transportation and reduce car dependency
- Help meet growing demand along an established cycling route
- Strengthen Toronto’s commitment to sustainable and healthy communities
- A small investment in bicycle parking can have a lasting positive impact on residents, visitors, and the broader neighbourhood.
Please sign and support the installation of additional bike rings at 60 Sumach Street.
