HMP Ranby's location, just off Straight Mile Road, has a high volume of traffic due to its proximity to the overflow car park. Staff members, like Phil, have to risk crossing this busy and often dangerous stretch of road daily. The absence of a safe pedestrian crossing forces them to dodge fast-moving vehicles, putting their lives at risk.

According to a local traffic survey conducted earlier this year, Straight Mile Road sees over 10,000 vehicles daily during peak hours. With no designated pedestrian crossing in place, the safety of numerous prison staff is compromised, and it's only a matter of time before another tragedy occurs.

Installing a pedestrian crossing is a manageable and necessary solution to prevent further accidents. It will provide a safe passage for staff members and ensure that no more lives are tragically cut short.
