This afternoon Western student Harriet, her dad Rob and I took a print out of the petition* to North Tyneside Council where we handed it to local Wallsend councillors.

The consultation on the council's plans for Wallsend - which include a zebra crossing outside the school on West Street - closes on Sunday.

The fact that more than 400 people have signed either this petition or the paper version we gathered signatures with at school is really good evidence that the crossing has support from the local community, and should make the council's final decision whether to go ahead with it an easy one to make.

But there's still more you can do!

If you have time between now and Sunday, please take a look at the consultation and share your own thoughts about the plan for West Street, and make sure you give your support for the zebra crossing! It will also be worth mentioning the need for a 20 mph zone outside the school, which doesn't currently appear to be part of the plans.

Once the consultation has closed there will still be more to do before it gets installed - I'll keep you updated.

Many thanks again for your support!
