This IS personal. This IS about my wife Nicki, denied proper care and SILENCED by Saint Francis ER in Chicago (after initially being told she was going to be discharged following a COVID test.) But more importantly, it's about CALLING OUT the DISCONNECT between Ascension's flowery MISSION STATEMENTS and the REALITY patients face when they're at their most vulnerable.

 

On October 2nd, while struggling with complications from a TBI, my wife was MET with this by staff at Ascension Saint Francis (EVANSTON, we SEE YOU!):

"We DON'T use family... EVER... It's ALWAYS medical interpreter." (Quoted from THEIR phone logs).

Think about that: NO loved ones, EVEN if legally authorized, because THEIR 'certified' interpreter is better, despite her brain INJURY making familiar communication ESSENTIAL. This VIOLATES Illinois law, and frankly, any concept of COMPASSION they're trying to sell on THIS PAGE.

This happened to US:

They PROMISED discharge after a COVID test... THEN I, her HUSBAND and POWER OF ATTORNEY / ADVOCATE, arrived, and suddenly she was being "petitioned" despite NO legal basis for that existing at the time.

They initially stated on record that Nicki's petition was already printed and being brought down by a supervisor (but later admitted not to having one at all and having to await a 2-hours-delayed tele-psych eval in order to FINALIZE her transfer against her wishes, without me being allowed there despite police being on site and confirming my right to access her, or them (the hospital) refusing Nicki water or documentation until finally 5 people burst into the room because I attempted to PUT SHOES ON HER AND BUTTON HER ROBE (at her request!)  

They USED my attempts to comfort her as PROOF she needed to be isolated... MEANWHILE denying ME basic info, access to her medical records, ANYTHING the law affords.

Result: A “no visitor" BAN. Me blocked, calls cut off, even her FATHER being misled until NOW. Is this Saint Vincent de Paul's vision of "just society"?
