This morning, I was given additional information and context on the drainage issue at Ozone Park by Covington Councilman of District B, Mr. John Botsford. He has informed me that the Louisiana Watershed Initiative has over $2 billion dollars set aside to address drainage issues and flood risk reduction in Covington and this funding has been in place since 2018. However, only one property has been bought out in Covington so far.

The City of Covington and the local authorities have taken it upon themselves to clean the Parish canals at their own expense, because they cannot wait on the state to address these issues any longer.

There is also a proposed drainage project to deepen and widen the mile branch which was done in the 1950's and should flow through to the Bogue Falaya River, but there has not been movement on that project.

I appreciate Mr. Botsford providing this information and his efforts in alleviating the drainage issues in our community. I am hoping this petition will act as a support in drawing attention to these issues and the need for a drainage improvement project for this district in Covington and Ozone Park.
