Infrastructure and Environmental justice

The Issue

✍️ CITIZEN SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN

For Infrastructure Accountability & Environmental Justice

📢 WE, THE CITIZENS, DEMAND RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT

Mumbai and Indian cities are being dug, rebuilt, and concretised endlessly.

Roads are reconstructed every few years.

Mountains are crushed.

Forests and water systems are destroyed.

Citizens lose time, health, money—and no one is held accountable.

This is not development.

This is systemic negligence.

🔴 OUR DEMANDS

We collectively demand the following to be made mandatory by law:

1️⃣ Environmental Damage Label

Every road, highway, flyover, metro, or large construction project must publicly disclose:

Land and fertile soil destroyed

Hills / mountains blasted or crushed
Trees and biodiversity lost
Groundwater recharge disrupted
Public time lost due to construction
People displaced or disturbed

👉 No disclosure = No approval

2️⃣ Personal Accountability

If roads are rebuilt within 10 years, or projects cause repeated flooding, congestion, or ecological harm:

The minister in charge

The approving senior officials
The sanctioning authority must be personally accountable.

3️⃣ Penalty for Repeated Failure

First failure: financial recovery + ban from approving projects
Repeated failure: jail term and permanent disqualification

Honest mistakes are acceptable.

Repeated negligence is not.

4️⃣ Environmental Restoration Bond

10–15% of project cost to be deposited upfront
Released only after verified environmental performance over 10 years

5️⃣ Public Time as a National Resource

Citizen hours lost must be calculated and added to project cost
Chronic mismanagement must attract penalties

⚖️ WHY THIS MATTERS

Natural resources are irreversible
Public money is finite
Public time is irreplaceable
Future generations cannot vote today—but will suffer tomorrow

🧾 OUR DECLARATION

We are not against development.

We are against careless, unaccountable development.

We demand quality, durability, transparency, and responsibility.
