Individuals right to Opt out of CPP

The Issue

Many people in Canada will never reach the age of retirement and collection of CPP funds. Everyone pays into this. However, those people who work dangerous jobs, or those deemed hazardous to life and health, will most likely never reach that point in life. When a person dies before the age of retirement these funds are pooled into the CPP and stay there. While this may be beneficial in some ways. Many would disagree. People should be able to opt out of CPP or the funds should be able to be allocated into a different fund that would be called CIP (Canadian Inheritance Plan) for our children or next of kin. If you died before the age of retirement those funds would then be part of an inheritance, and be given to the family member of your choice so long as they are an adult. If not, the funds would be held until that chosen beneficiary reached the age of 18. This would allow all citizens of Canada the comfort of knowing that all of the funds they have put into these plans go where they should. And they have a choice. The ability to opt out of everything and no longer pay a CPP or CIP on every paycheck one receives would also and should also be an option for all Canadians.
