Indie Artists Demand Fair Play from Spotify

The issue

Recently Spotify has started removing independent artist’s music from their platform. The vague reason for this is "abnormal streaming activity".
No actual proof of wrongdoing is provided and there is no pathway for artists to challenge their decision.

This goes against Spotify’s own code of “Competition and fair dealing” which states, in part; “We play fair. We’re happy to outperform our competition, but we always do so fairly and honestly. We compete simply by being better, never with practices that are illegal, unethical, or questionable.
So always be good...Deal fairly with customers, suppliers, competitors and employees, and always respect their rights. Don't take unfair advantage of anyone through manipulation, concealment, abuse of privileged information, misrepresentation of facts or any other kind of intentional dirty tricks or unfair practice.”

As an independent artist, I rely heavily on platforms like Spotify to reach my fans and establish connections. My music is not just a source of entertainment, but also a means for me to communicate with my audience and build relationships.
In actuality it is my art and my life. I would never risk that by violating Spotify’s T&C’s.

Recently, however, I've also experienced the unilateral removal of songs from Spotify, based on false allegations of fake streams - I actually belong to a community of about 1,500 musicians who actively fight AGAINST the very practices they are accusing me of.

The decision-making process lacks transparency, as no proof is provided nor input sought from the artist before taking such drastic action. Without due process in place for song removals, many artists are left vulnerable and their careers potentially damaged. We urge streaming services like Spotify to implement fair practices that respect artists' rights. This includes providing evidence of alleged fake streams and allowing artists an opportunity to respond before any action is taken.

I would readily allow Spotify access to my banking accounts, to prove that I have NEVER paid for streams. But they need to provide me the opportunity to defend myself before taking away my hopes and dreams.

Being an independent musician is hard enough, and the rewards are rarely monetary. We simply want to be heard by fans and right now, by Spotify.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair play and due process within our digital music ecosystems.
