Friends,
Tomorrow is the day we have set to call the office of Governor Eric Holcomb to support a pardon for Keith Cooper. Twenty years after he as been wrongly convicted and, for ten years, incarcerated for an armed robbery, it is past time for him to get a full pardon, clearing his felony record.
I am not exactly sure when people are present to answer the phones, so I would recommend trying between 8 and 5. The phone number is
317-232-4567
This is the same phone number Mike Pence had for the public to call when he was governor, so it occurs to me that the people answering the phone number will be some of the same people who were answering the phones last August and September when we were calling previously. Calling was a strategy that we should have never given up, but it was hard then to keep calling just to get Pence's refusal to pardon Keith.
We have something different this time: Governor Holcomb said in the third gubernatorial candidate debate that he would pardon Keith if the facts support a full pardon. We believe the facts do support a full pardon. So the message we want to communicate is this:
Keith Cooper has endured an injustice from the state of Indiana for twenty years. We want Governor Holcomb to honor the promise he made during the debate and pardon Keith Cooper now. We are committed to seeing justice done for Keith, and we will not quit advocating for him until he is pardoned.
That's the message. Please share this Call Day event with others. Join us, share the event, invite others, and remember to call tomorrow.
Cheers,
Jack Heller
