Friends,
I check news updates and Facebook and Twitter feeds almost daily to see what is occurring to advance a pardon for Keith. For the past three weeks, several thousand people have shared an October CounterCurrent News link deriding Mike Pence for not pardoning Keith. Publicity may help, but for this petition . . .
It's not about Mike Pence anymore.
The only person authorized to pardon a state conviction is the state's governor, and on Monday morning, January 9th, Indiana's governor will become Eric Holcomb. So he has to become our target now for this petition.
During Indiana's third gubernatorial campaign debate, Holcomb semi-sort-of-promised to pardon Keith. If I had my druthers, he'd do Monday by noon, but I don't expect that to happen. However, forgive the all caps, IF WE KEEP UP THE PRESSURE, I think we can get the pardon done this month. Please help us with this:
An editorial I have written for the Indianapolis Star has just been published online. It's linked with this update. And this link is to a YouTube video of Holcomb's response to the debate question about pardoning Keith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l87iT8C0J0A
I would like for these to replace the links people continue to share about Pence. Pence is not going to pardon Keith, and beginning on Monday, he can't. What we need now is to draw attention to Holcomb's opportunity to act on Keith's pardon. So, whether you live in Indiana or elsewhere, please share a link to this petition, to the editorial, and to the video on both your Facebook pages and in your Twitter feeds. On Twitter, you may direct your postings to @LGHolcolmb and @HolcombForIN. He also uses @NextLevelIN. Let him hear from you that you want him to follow through and pardon Keith. And if you want to post on Holcomb's Facebook page, it's here: https://www.facebook.com/HolcombForIndiana/
Now, I want to observe one difference between Holcomb and Pence: Pence has said that he wouldn't pardon Keith Cooper; with some reservations, Holcomb has said that he would. I would prefer that supporters of this petition not resort to name-calling. The message I would like for use to communicate is the one I give in the letter to the editor: we expect him to pardon Keith soon. If thousands of people say so, I trust that it will happen.
Thank you all for all of your help to this point. If you will help us a little more, I think we can get a pardon for Keith done.
Cheers,
Jack Heller
P.S. If the Indy Star's popup (very annoying) blocks you from reading the letter to the editor, click on the arrow at the bottom center of the popup to read the letter.
