Friends, Despite having now 106,000 signatures on behalf of a wrongly convicted African American man whose injustice is being perpetuated by a vice presidential candidate . . . Let's just stop there a moment and let the full meaning of that sink in. Despite even all of that^, we haven't had any success in getting any national press attention to this story. Let this sink in a moment too. In fact, earlier in this campaign, when I put out the email address of a nationally known reporter/activist, all that that had generated was an angry personal message to me asking me to call you off. Not any press. That email address, by the way, was published by the reporter/activist's own newspaper site and Facebook page. We just made use of it. Trending right now in social media is Roland Martin taking on Bill O'Reilly. A number of supporters of this effort have suggested reaching out to him, and I have tried, but so far, not effectively. Roland Martin IS NOT, by the way, the person who chose to say nothing whom I've mentioned above. I think we can reach Roland Martin. On his Facebook page and via Facebook messaging, would you consider reaching out to him today with a link to this petition and to the Michael Christofeno letter? I think we can get him to call Mike Pence out on not pardoning Keith Cooper. We have been aiming at getting media attention, but we should also reach out to government officials. This past week, the Congressional Black Caucus held a hearing with the Innocence Project. (Keith Cooper is well represented by the co-laborers of the Chicago-based Exoneration Project.) Since wrongful convictions have been the focus the Congressional Black Caucus's attention, please send them messages today with any links you want to bring their attention to Keith Cooper's case. I posted a bunch of good links in a comment to the earlier update on Elaine Quijano. And please continue to tweet her as well to get a question on Cooper's case into the vice presidential debate. If you haven't read the previous update, on the Michael Christofeno letter, please do. Tomorrow, I want to introduce a strategy of a week of phone calling officials, using that letter as the basis for the call. Thank you all for your help! Jack Heller
