Friends,
We didn't quite get to 100,000 signatures yesterday, but as I am writing this, we are only 1600 away. This is great!
I spoke with a representative from Governor Pence's office yesterday who told me that the pardon is still under consideration. To me, after 2.5 years, I take this to be code for, "We have decided not to do anything." After all, it is not taking the signers of this petition 2.5 years to read about Keith Cooper's case and decide that he deserves a pardon. So let's keep the pressure on the office of the governor. Please call the office today to express your support for the petition and to ask what the governor is waiting on. 317-232-4567
With this post I want to share three links. This is to an Indianapolis Star article, which includes a document box of the reports of the DNA tests which clear Mr. Cooper and an affidavit from the jailhouse snitch recanting his earlier court testimony against Mr. Cooper: http://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2015/12/05/keith-cooper-man-imprisoned-crime-he-didnt-commit/76677626/
This link is to another Indianapolis Star article reporting that the prosecutor of the robbery charge against Mr. Cooper now calls upon Governor Pence to pardon him: http://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2016/04/26/former-prosecutor-keith-cooper-must-pardoned/83492282/. This includes the prosecutor's letter to the governor.
Below is a link to a video in which the victim of the robbery admits that he misidentified Mr. Cooper.
When you look at all of this, do you need 2.5 years to reach a conclusion that Keith Cooper should be pardoned? If not, please share the petition and the articles, on Facebook, on your page, on Mike Pence's pages, on Tim Kaine's page, and all over Twitter.
