Friends, we are approaching 100,000 signatures. We'll get there either today or tomorrow. Keep sharing the petition. I want to remind you of a few paragraphs from the Chicago Tribune, July 21: "Cooper, 49, watched Wednesday from his Country Club Hills home as Pence introduced himself to a national television audience during a 30-minute speech highlighting his conservative Midwestern values at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Cooper said he couldn't help but wonder — what about me? "He had the power to do what was right and pardon me — an innocent man — and he hasn't," said Cooper, a forklift operator. "Listening to Pence's speech angered me," he continued. "Hearing him say, 'That we are, as we have always been, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.' "Does that apply to me?" This weekend, Donald Trump has been arguing that African American voters should vote for him. In my opinion, experiences like Keith Cooper's are a reason he and Republicans are not reaching African Americans. So, let's show this today. Let's take over Mike Pence's Facebook page. Go there, https://www.facebook.com/mikepence/, and in the comments of any of Pence's Facebook postings, comment with a link to this petition. Let's show Pence, his Facebook followers, his Facebook administrators, and the media that we are here and we expect Pence to pardon Keith Cooper. A few points: If you comment on a post rather than just posting a link on his page, it will take an administrator to remove your post from the page. If thousands of us do this, this WILL get attention, even if they remove every link to the petition. Be firm but civil. I wouldn't criticize Pence's visit to Louisiana. But I would point out that almost 100,000 people want to know why Pence isn't pardoning Keith Cooper. Why not connect this to the election? Why not say that things like refusing to pardon Keith Cooper are the reasons Republicans are failing to win African American voters? If you post a link to the petition on Pence's page and a link on your own page, I bet this would get viral and press attention. Tomorrow, we will resume calling the office of the governor, 317-232-4567
