Friends, Today we crossed 75,000 signatures on the petition. Yesterday, I was asked what our goal is. Our goal is a pardon for Keith Cooper. Press attention and this petition drive are intended to get that done. A lack of attention is what has allowed Governor Pence to stand in the way of justice for Mr. Cooper. Our strategy earlier this week was to call the office of the governor in support of the pardon. Today, let's return to overwhelming his phone bank with call, this time focusing not just one supporting the pardon, but on asking what it is being done about it since the calls earlier this week. The answer is probably that nothing is being done. However, we should expect more from the governor's office than this. If they answer that the governor is waiting for more information from the parole board, you may answer that Keith Cooper's lawyer has said that the governor has everything which was presented to the parole board. You may have noticed that the top-rated comment on the petition is from Ms. Slayden, Mr. Cooper's wife. The response she has once gotten from the governor's office is that now that he's out of prison, he doesn't need a pardon. Yes, he DOES need a pardon, and the family ought to get an apology from the governor for that answer. The governor does not live with the stigma of a false conviction, but this is not only hurting the Coopers financially, but it is just wrong morally. So call the governor's office today: 317-232-4567. Tell them we expect an actual answer from the governor, no matter what else he is spending his time doing. As for contacting the press, we can let yesterday's effort take its course. Today, let's focus on television: For contacting ABC News: http://abcnews.go.com/Site/page?id=3271346&cat=World%20News%20Tonight%20with%20David%20Muir. Please note that they have a 500 character limit, so make it a short message sending a link. For CBS News, http://audienceservices.cbs.com/feedback/feedback.htm. That's enough for today. Thank you for your efforts.
