Friends,
Yesterday, the petition got 5567, down from 16,354 signatures on Tuesday. Still, the petition currently has 68,164 signatures.
Since we began this petition effort, there hasn't been any press coverage of Keith Cooper's situation and the purpose of this petition drive. When you consider that we are doing this while Governor Pence is running to be vice president of the United States, this lack of coverage parallels Governor Pence's own lack of interest in justice for Keith Cooper. And this ought to concern you.
One or two people tweeting a reporter is not getting any attention for this effort. Let's today focus on two writers, Charles M Blow and Shaun King. Blow is a columnist for the New York Times writing about race, politics, and culture. Shaun King is the senior justice writer for the New York Daily News; he is a civil rights activist. Please, today, focus especially on these two writers. Send them the Indianapolis Star explaining Keith Cooper's case, linked below. Send them this petition. I intend to write an email letter to both men today, but single emails and tweets can be ignored. A BUNCH of emails, tweets, and Facebook posts will get some attention, if only to get them to wonder what the heck the fuss is about. If we get them to look, I suspect we can get them to take up the cause. Tweet: @CharlesMBlow and @shaunking. Email: chblow@nytimes.com and sking@nydailynews.com
Charles Blow's current column on the Republican race concludes with "email me at chblow@nytimes.com." He's probably getting emails from angry Trump supporters. Use the subject line "Keith Cooper needs your help" and let's see what happens.
