I had the opportunity this past week to brief each of the remaining four county commissioners on the proposal to Make the Jungle Trail Safe! Feedback from commissioners Solari, O’Bryan, and Zorc was neutral to slightly positive. All three indicated that in order to support the proposal, they would need to see a broad base of support, particularly from those segments of the county that do not live on or near the JT. Commissioner Adams stated that roads are built for cars, not bicycles or pedestrians, and that under no circumstance would she support an effort to restrict motor vehicles from a public road.
In order to get the word out to a broader segment of the population, it was suggested that a presentation of the proposal be made during the public discussion section of an upcoming commissioners meeting. I plan to sign up to speak at the Tuesday, June 6 BCC and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The meeting begins at 9 am and is held in the Commission Chambers at the Indian River County Administration Complex, 1801 27th Street, Building A.
In the meantime, please continue to solicit support for the proposal with a special emphasis on those potential supporters that may live on the mainland or southern portions of the island. Thanks and I hope to see you at the BCC meeting!
