After suo moto action taken by the National Commission of Scheduled Castes, IIT Kharagpur suspended Prof. Seema Singh over casteist remarks. However, this is only a small step in the direction of protecting the welfare of Dalit, Bahujan, and Adivasi students and faculty. There are many professors like Seema Singh in all IITs whose caste-based discrimination goes unreported and unchecked. We need robust SC, ST, OBC committees to counter caste-based discrimination on campus and in the classroom.
