STOP issuance of Tourist VISA to Missionaries, enforce existing Indian Law

The Issue

Millions of people visit India every year. Majority of them come as Tourist or on Business visa by providing proper documentation and applying for Indian visa. India also allow special visa for Christian missionaries, they primarily come to convert Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and other people.

However majority of the Christian Missionaries do not APPLY for missionary visa and get tourist visa instead. This is clear violation of the existing Indian Laws

Indian regulations clearly state that if a foreign religious worker comes to India for missionary work, they have to obtain Missionary VISA and not any other VISA.

On TOURIST visa

  • Any foreign Missionary can come without any additional checking on multiple trips to India
  • Tourist Visa can be obtained on arrival using E-Visa system
  • Tourist visa is valid for 10 years and for multiple entries
  • They can bring hard cash money, which can be used for any purpose
  • They can bring material used for proselytizing purposes

Why Missionary Visa

  • By coming on tourist visa and not applying for missionary visa, foreigners are breaking Indian law by WRONGLY stating purpose of the visit.
  • Missionary visa is applicable for one entry and valid for 6 months
  • Missionary visa holders have to report and register when they arrive in India

Indian government and people of India have right to know who is coming to India and for what purpose

This problem is systemic within Indian Consulate Offices and its assigned agents fail to ask and ascertain purpose of the visit. Majority of the visa work has been outsourced to travel companies. These companies are not doing their job properly. They do not check and confirm that visa is for Tourist purposes.

We are not asking for new law or regulations, please enforce existing laws
