Increase Wage Rates for Overnight Walmart Workers in Frozen and Dairy Departments

The Issue

From the frozen aisles of Walmart, I voice out an appeal that strikes a chord with many of my colleagues who work in the chilling conditions of the frozen and dairy departments overnight. Every night, we're seen unfalteringly managing not just one but eight to nine cases, often more. Our daily grind revolves around the cold chain, tolerating temperatures that drop significantly lower than those encountered by our peers elsewhere in the store. Yet, our pay barely reflects the additional challenges we encounter.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average grocery store worker makes about $13 per hour. However, it fails to account for the differentiated nature of tasks performed by employees within the store. We call for Walmart, one of the largest employers in the U.S., to recognize the heightened responsibilities and conditions that come with working in the frozen and dairy departments, especially during overnight shifts. Our request is a simple one: higher wages for overnight workers in the frozen and dairy departments to reflect the additional demands of our roles.

Join us to support fair compensation. It's time for overnight workers in the Walmart frozen and dairy departments to earn wages that truly reflect the nature of our work. Please sign this petition.
