The Issue

My journey towards becoming a compassionate and skilled nurse has been both challenging and rewarding. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Autonomous State Medical College in Shahjahanpur, inspired by the stories of those I care for and driven by a deep-seated desire to make a difference in the medical field. However, as I approach the internship phase of my education—a crucial period where theory meets practice—I am met with financial constraints that jeopardize this essential learning experience.

Nursing internships are integral to our professional development, allowing students to gain hands-on experience that textbooks cannot provide. Yet, the current stipend of INR 20,000 is insufficient to meet the practical needs of nursing students, especially in a demanding field that requires focus, dedication, and support. Higher living costs, transportation to hospitals for shifts, and educational materials add significant financial burdens. Without adequate financial support, many of us are left struggling to meet these expenses.

Across India, the standard for nursing stipends varies significantly, with some states recognizing the need for increased financial support in line with inflation and rising costs. For example, students in metropolitan areas often receive higher stipends, acknowledging their increased living expenses and the critical nature of their work. Shahjahanpur, though smaller, faces similar economic challenges that must be addressed to ensure equity for all nursing students.

I am advocating for a revision and increase in the stipend allocated to nursing students at the Autonomous State Medical College in Shahjahanpur. By adjusting the stipend to better reflect the current economic landscape—such as increasing it to INR 30,000 per month—we would not only alleviate financial stress but also cultivate an environment where nursing students can thrive and focus fully on their education and the invaluable experience of serving patients.

Increasing the internship stipend would demonstrate a commitment to nurturing the next generation of nurses and recognize the critical role we play in the healthcare system. It would also ensure that financial barriers do not hinder those passionate about healthcare from reaching their full potential.

This is a call to action for the administration of the Autonomous State Medical College, local and state government officials, and other stakeholders. By signing this petition, you lend your voice and support to ensure a brighter, more balanced future for nursing students in Shahjahanpur. Help us secure the tools and support we need to learn, grow, and ultimately offer the best care to those who need it the most.

Please show your support and sign this petition to help increase the BSc nursing internship stipend. Together, we can make a transformative change for nursing education in our community.
