“Increase MBBS Intern Stipend in Punjab to ₹30,000 per Month”

“Increase MBBS Intern Stipend in Punjab to ₹30,000 per Month”
The Issue
We, the MBBS interns of Government Medical College, Patiala, and other medical institutions in Punjab, are currently receiving a monthly stipend of ₹15,000. This amount has remained unchanged for years, despite the increasing cost of living and the demanding nature of our duties.
In comparison, our counterparts in states like Delhi and Haryana receive stipends ranging from ₹24,000 to ₹30,000 per month. For instance, the Haryana government recently increased the stipend for MBBS interns to ₹24,310 per month .
Our responsibilities often mirror those of junior residents, including managing emergency cases, assisting in surgeries, and providing critical patient care. The current stipend does not reflect the workload and dedication required in our roles.
We urge the Punjab government to:
Increase the MBBS intern stipend to ₹30,000 per month.
Implement regular revisions to the stipend in line with inflation and workload.
Your support can help ensure fair compensation for the future healthcare providers of our state.
