The Issue

Growing up surrounded by the pristine beauty of Canada’s forests, I never imagined watching them turn to ash and smoke. Yet, with the looming threat of climate change, devastating forest fires have become an all-too-familiar occurrence. It’s heartbreaking to witness the toxic air that these fires leave in their wake, the homes turned to ruins, and the countless animals displaced from their natural habitats.

As Canada continues to experience the harsh realities of global warming, it is crucial to address these fires with all possible resources at our disposal. Last year alone, wildfires led to air quality advisories across major cities, emphasizing the urgent need for increased airborne firefighting capabilities.

To combat this escalating crisis, I urge the Canadian government to invest in augmenting its fleet of firefighting aircraft, for a proactive stance rather than reactive. Support from that Southern Country is uncertain. These planes are pivotal in providing rapid aerial response, dropping water and fire retardants to contain blazes quickly, and ultimately protecting valuable ecosystems and communities. Currently, Canada manages with a limited number of such aircraft, often relying on international assistance when the situation spirals out of control.

Fortifying our aerial firefighting resources will not only ensure a more robust response to fires but also provide security and peace of mind to millions of Canadians. By increasing our fleet, we reinforce our commitment to safeguarding our environment, homes, the brave fire fighters, and wildlife from the unrelenting threat of wildfires.

Simply put; the faster a fire is put out, the less damage it does.

Join me in this critical initiative to call on our leaders to prioritize and allocate resources for more firefighting aircraft. Your signature can help convince policymakers that it's time to act decisively and protect our nation from future fire disasters. UPDATE: I've just read, on the Globe and Mail, that Ontario will spend $650-million on five new helicopters and six new water bombers to help fight spreading wildfires. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/video-ontario-to-buy-new-aircraft-to-fight-wildfires-doug-ford-says/

This is encouraging. As this is a national petition, I hope to hear that other provinces will also add onto the Canadian fleet.
