Increase Bathroom Security at NPHS

Increase Bathroom Security at NPHS
The Issue
I've witnessed firsthand how inadequate our school's security measures are in keeping us safe against the issue of vaping and how substances can affect other students. Recently, an alarming incident occurred involving a student, Matthew, who was ganged up on by several students over a dispute involving a flavored vape. This situation highlights the urgent need to re-evaluate and enhance the security protocols at our school to ensure our safety and well-being.
The current security system at North Port High School is, unfortunately, underfunded and lacks the necessary resources to address issues proactively. The on-campus officers, while present, are insufficient in number and are often unable to effectively monitor and prevent vaping and other disruptive behaviors. This ineffective coverage leaves room for alarming situations like the one involving Matthew to arise, putting students at risk.
Investing in our security means hiring more trained security personnel who can focus on high-risk areas, such as restrooms and secluded hallways, where vaping and other misconduct are more likely to occur. Implementing better surveillance technologies and the promotion of anti-substance programs on schools would allow for a more aware campus and a better protected student base.
We need immediate action from our school board and local authority figures to prioritize our safety. By increasing the funding and focus on security, we can prevent further incidents and ensure a safe learning environment for all students at North Port High School.
Let's come together to advocate for a change that ensures our school remains a safe place for learning and growth. Your signature can make a difference. Please sign this petition to call for heightened security measures against substances and vaping at North Port High School.
