Kristallnacht: Remembering the Past, Educating for the Future. Sign, Share, Get Involved!

On November 9–10, 1938, Nazi Germany unleashed a wave of violence against Jewish communities. Synagogues were burned, Jewish businesses destroyed, and thousands of innocent people were assaulted, arrested, and murdered. This became known as Kristallnacht — the Night of Broken Glass.
History reminds us why education matters more than ever.
We commend Bergen Community College's Center for Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation for organizing an immersive historical commemoration that brings the events of Kristallnacht to life through archival imagery, witness accounts, and historical reconstruction.

This is exactly why our petition to incorporate Jewish American Heritage Month into the Fair Lawn Public Schools curriculum remains so important.
Recognizing Jewish American heritage is not about teaching religion. It is about teaching history, culture, contributions, resilience, and the consequences of antisemitism and hatred.
Our Fair Lawn Board of Education voted to recognize Jewish American Heritage Month in October 2025. Now we continue advocating for meaningful integration into the curriculum.
Remembering history is important. Teaching it to the next generation is essential.
Never forget. Never again.
Our Goal #2 remains. We have respectfully requested and awaiting a response from "the Superintendent to incorporate appropriate activities to celebrate JAHM of May and to officially implement it in our curriculum, in accordance with 2020 Diversity & Inclusion Legislation 18A:35-4.36a and in compliance with NJ DOE: “It’s more than a month; it’s about integrating Jewish American Heritage Month (May) into K–12 Social Studies.”
This petition will stay active until our final goal is achieved. We encourage everyone to keep contacting the decision makers and let them know why this matters to you and our community. Every message helps us move one step closer to lasting change.
