Rwanda Minister for Environment - Vincent Biruta says climate warming has a negative impact on the lives on Rwandans and affects about ten per cent of the national budget and called for joint efforts to reverse the trend.

He said that natural disasters that include floods and landslides are set to increase unless something is done to grow cities in ways that are more attuned to nature.

Comment: No EAC Partner State is safe from floods and landslides that are costly to livelihoods and infrastructure. The EAC road map for implementation of Paris Agreement provides a good starting point for regional efforts to promote climate resilient  and low carbon development initiatives such as the Climate Smart Agriculture and ecosystem adaptation initiatives.

It is therefore important and urgent to roll out this Roadmap in order to reduce the rising climate change related costs
