Hi there: Just released the October AB condo newsletter so let me know if you haven't received it. Also, please pass the word of our work to others (www.albertacondominiums.ca). To those who are new to our network - THANK YOU for signing up. With summer behind us, and the Legislature convening very shortly, things will get interesting. Will there be specific, observable and measurable progress made on condo legislation reform? Or will there be a dragging of feet with some doing all possible to do nothing until the next election when they hope to regain power and control and revert to a dictatorial, autocratic, secretive, my way or the highway, 1957 management style? Who knows? But what I know is that I want to see timely and specific steps taken this Fall and into the Winter to make the Condominium Property Act/Bill 9 Regulations more inclusive, fair and balanced. I also want to have the Regulations presented to the public for an extensive public consultation review (not one that is released on Christmas eve and closed for feedback on Boxing Day (Ha Ha - couldn't help myself). Further ... and this is critically important ... we need to push for the proposed third party, unbiased, independent, cost and time effective Conflict Dispute Tribunal to be up and operational as soon as possible. Take a page out of BC's book and make it happen! There's no need to recreate the wheel. BC has a credible, working model so let's see what we can do to follow their lead. The fact that hard working Alberta condo owners have to spend their own hard earned money on legal fees to address condo issues that exist, in large part, because of generic, vague, non-descript Alberta condo legislation is disgusting. For years Service Alberta has abdicated their responsibility to condo owners, the economic engines behind condo industry successes. It's time for an attitude adjustment towards condo owners and the time is now. Stay tuned and contact me if you think I can help or simply just listen.
