Include Disability BMX Class in UCI 2026 World Champs

Include Disability BMX Class in UCI 2026 World Champs
The issue
I have always been passionate about BMX racing, and like many others, dream of competing at the highest levels. The excitement, the thrill, the adrenaline rush - it captivates me, just as it captivates many BMX enthusiasts around the world. However, for those of us with disabilities, the path to reaching such heights is filled with obstacles, not all of which are due to the sport's inherent challenges.
In 2026, the UCI BMX Racing World Championships will once again bring together the best BMX racers globally. Yet, the absence of a disability class in this prestigious event leaves many talented riders, including myself, without the opportunity to race on this world stage. This gap in inclusive representation not only dampens the dreams of aspiring BMX racers with disabilities like me but also signifies a missed opportunity to showcase the diverse talent within the BMX community.
BMX racing is not just a sport; it's a community, a family. Introducing a para BMX category at the UCI World Championships would not only enable many of us to realize our dreams but also inspire a new generation of racers. With appropriate infrastructure and support, racers with disabilities can compete safely and proudly, showing the world that we too can excel.
Statistically, the inclusion of para categories in other sports has increased participation and viewership, fostering an appreciation for the strength and resilience of athletes with disabilities. Courting this category would not only benefit the riders but enrich the championship experience for fans, creating a more inclusive and dynamic event.
Please stand with me to call upon the UCI to recognize and implement a disability class in the 2026 BMX Racing World Championships. Sign this petition to pave the way for inclusivity and inspire countless racers with disabilities to chase their BMX dreams on the world stage.
