Petition updateIn Memory of Jordan Grant: Eliminate Death Trap at Hwy 101 and El Campo RoadYou can save the next Jordan on March 21st

You can help save the next Jordan on March 21st. I will explain. But first...

We celebrated Jordan's 19 birthday on February 17 at his grave. Friends came from college and gathered with Jordan's family there. We shared his favorite pizza and played his music. Everyone wrote messages to Jordan on red and black balloons and then released them together after singing Happy Birthday. And we ended the song with our usual family version with the added lyric "and many more." Quietly my heart broke all over again, as for Jordan there will not be many more.

Jordan was a joy and light in everyone's life who knew him. We will always celebrate Jordan's birthday even though he is gone;  even though it will also be very painful. It is the severity of his loss that drives us to call for everyone to stand up to save the next Jordan from the El Campo death trap. That death trap was left open to unsafe left turns, which is what  killed Jordan, after Caltrans did "public outreach" meetings in 2011. Sounds innocent enough - public outreach.  But if you ask Caltrans today why they didn't make El Campo safe when they had the studies, the plans and funding to close it in 2012 they will tell you they had public outreach meetings and based on some opposition at such meetings changed their plans leaving El Campo unsafe. So now once again, we are about to have public outreach meetings on March 21, 2019. Everyone who wants to save the next Jordan from being killed at the El Campo death trap, needs to attend this meeting. Becky and I will be there wearing our Stand up for Jordan t-shirts.

The public outreach meeting will take place March 21st from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Arroyo Grande Hospital Annex Conference Room (345 South Halcyon Road, Arroyo Grande). The SLOCOG Board said it is holding the meeting to detail the results of the El Campo Road/South County Freeway Conversion Traffic Displacement Assessment (Step 2), the second phase of a two-step analysis assessing the implications of restricting access at the El Campo death trap and other intersections on U.S. Highway 101.

Prior to coming to the March 21 meeting you can read Step 1 of The Traffic Analysis on the SLOCOG website:  https://www.slocog.org/studies-underway/el-campo-road-intersection . It is encouraging that Step 1 of the Traffic Analysis stated in its preliminary findings: " From the safety aspect of this analysis, it was determined that eliminating left turns across US 101 will reduce the possibility of higher severity collisions, especially those involved with left turns or U-turns. Rerouted traffic is generally being relocated along routes that typically experience fewer and less severe collisions, resulting in a net decrease in collisions and severe injury risk to the motoring public."

Also please remember to keep posting and sharing this petition on social media. We want to keep gathering signatures and support until the El Campo death trap is closed. We have exceeded 26,000 signatures - thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition.
