We had well over 1000 citizens turn out collectively at the NCDOT meetings on 7/16, 7/18 and 7/23. The message to mid-level NCDOT officials was overwhelmingly clear: Improve the Circle, Don’t Destroy It.
The Pinehurst Village Council met on 7/23. All Council comments on the issue are clear: Improve the Circle, Don’t Destroy It, and they are preparing a resolution to NCDOT that will say so for the record. To see and hear what the Council members said, start watching at 1:18:33.
But We’re Not Done Yet - Let's Take it to the Top of the Org Chart
Give some additional weight to the Council's resolve (on the agenda for their next meeting on August 13) by writing to the Governor and the Secretary of Transportation himself:

Here are some quotes from the Pinehurst Village Council:
Pat Pizzella (Mayor): “The citizen involvement is remarkable. I have not seen an issue that has united our community like this. I intend to propose a resolution for us to go on record formally at our next meeting on August 13.”
John Taylor (Mayor Pro Tem): “I agree with Pat. We need to go on record. We need to tell the NCDOT engineers we need to see what Plan B would look like.”
Jeff Morgan (Council Member): “Way to go to our citizens. You got us a seat back at the table. And I have incredible heartburn with people having to lose their homes.”
Jack Farrell (Council Member): “The cost-benefit equation for the individuals in the community is weighted more towards caring about their community as a whole. Maybe we can work on a solution that works for both NCDOT and Pinehurst.”
Barb Ficklin (Treasurer): “NCDOT is focused on today’s traffic patterns at the Circle and I think that’s dangerous. In 8 years we could be implementing something that is already obsolete. It makes no sense, not to mention the destructive impact the CFI would have on the Village of Pinehurst.”
