The Issue

On June 14th, 1988, my life was forever changed. My close friend and cousin, Loretta McCray Lynn, was murdered, and to this day, justice remains elusive. It is a cold case, and has been challenging and heartbreaking.

In my grief and relentless quest for answers, I started a podcast, www.missingorcold.com which has exposed a pattern of neglect in communication with family members of missing persons and cold cases. Through interviews, I've uncovered stories that are incredibly disturbing—not just because of the tragedies themselves, but because of how little effort seems to be made to keep families informed and involved.

It is crucial for the Police Department to communicate progress, hurdles, and any developments with the families of victims. These families, including mine, endure an unbearable silence that impedes their healing and search for closure.

Arizona is not unique in having cold cases, but we can set an example by demanding accountability and transparency from our law enforcement. We propose a structured protocol where regular updates, whether monthly or quarterly, are provided to families and loved ones of the victims. This can be in the form of emails, phone calls, or virtual meetings. Not only will this ease the burden of uncertainty and despair, but it reaffirms the dignity of the victims and respects the emotional journey of their families.

I urge you to sign this petition. Together, we can push for a more responsible and compassionate approach from our police department, creating a community that supports its members in times of unspeakable loss. Hold the department accountable for communication and help transform grief into resolution.
