The Issue

As local Green Councillors, we have heard the concerns of residents and people using Ashley Down Station about the inadequate street lighting on Concorde Way, stretching from Muller Road to Mina Road. This pathway, a vital corridor for children walking home from school and for cyclists and pedestrians, becomes perilously dark during the winter months. The safety of our community is at risk, and it is imperative that we take action.

Dark and poorly lit streets are not only a concern for physical safety but also contribute to a sense of insecurity among residents and commuters. According to studies, well-lit streets can significantly reduce crime rates and enhance public confidence in using communal spaces. In areas with good illumination, pedestrian traffic is increased, fostering a sense of community and deterring potential criminal activity.

We ask the council and network rail to find environmentally considerate lighting options along this crucial stretch of Concorde Way.

We call on Bristol City Council & Network Rail to prioritise this matter, allocate the necessary funds, and begin the process of installing new streetlights along Concord Way.

By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for a safer, more secure, and environmentally mindful infrastructure. Let’s make our streets a safer place for everyone, especially during the darker months.

Please sign this petition to urge the necessary action.
