Improve security at VCU

The Issue

I just want to let you know about a situation I encountered Friday March 18th, 2022 on campus in hopes we could receive some assistance. I and three others (all women of color) were at the Cabell Library last night around 7:30 pm studying, when a white old man began waving at us and entered our study room without an invitation. He then proceeded to tell us to stop laughing and that he is the smartest man in the world. He also announced how he plans to go to VCU one day. He got very close to me and told me and my friends not to be scared of him. He then backed away and threw a neo-nazi/white supremacy sign at us, pointed up at God, and began blowing kisses at us as he left the room. My friends and I have already contacted library security, the VCU admin, and VCU police. The VCU police have been extremely helpful, however, our library staff has not been. Head of library security has been a communicator but not taking into serious consideration the many issues we have that could create another instance or worse. For example, we do not have security cameras on second floor, we do not have any metal detectors, other library patrons have even grown accustom to having random strangers harassing. We are hoping for support to increase and enforce security measures to the general public and their access to our campus buildings.
