Improve safety measures at Warwick and Gerpins Lane
The Issue
On December 12th, 2025, my world changed forever. My son, Jordan, was tragically killed at the young age of 28 while walking along the country lanes by the bend of Warwick Lane and Gerpins Lane. This spot has been notorious for crashes, both before and since my son's death. The loss I feel is indescribable, and my hope is that no other family has to endure the same tragedy.
These lanes are not just roads—they are parts of the daily lives of the people in our community. However, they have become places of frequent accidents and heartbreak. Local residents are well aware of the dangers, yet so little has been done to address them. Warwick Lane and Gerpins Lane need urgent safety measures to protect those who travel them, be it on foot, bicycle, or vehicle.
Previous incidents in this area highlight the lack of adequate safety measures. Whether it is poor signage, inadequate lighting, insufficient speed regulation, or hazardous bends, the risk to pedestrians and drivers is unacceptable. Studies by road safety authorities have shown that improving road infrastructure can significantly decrease the likelihood of accidents. Roads similar to these have been successfully made safer with better street lighting, more visible road markings, speed bumps, and warning signs.
The solution is clear: immediate action must be taken to improve road safety at these intersections. This includes installing better lighting and implementing speed-reducing measures. Furthermore, increasing police patrolling to enforce speed limits and monitor driver behavior can act as a deterrent for reckless driving.
I am reaching out to the Havering Council and the local Highway Authority to urgently address these critical safety issues. We need to work together to transform these dangerous lanes into safer roads for everyone. The safety of our residents, families, and loved ones depends on it.
