Too many accidents. Too many injuries. It’s time for action.

We, the residents of Gumdale and concerned members of the community, urge the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to improve the safety of the Grassdale Road and Tilley Road intersection in Gumdale.

This intersection has become a hotspot for accidents, endangering lives and putting unnecessary strain on local healthcare services.

We have obtained official crash data from the Department of Transport covering the years 2001 to 2023. The data reveals alarming numbers:

• 77 accidents occurred on Grassdale, Tilley, and Stanborough Roads.
• 63 of these were multi-vehicle collisions.
• 50 accidents directly resulted from the intersections at Grassdale + Tilley and Grassdale + Stanborough.
• 32 individuals were hospitalized.
• An additional 39 people required medical treatment.

It’s important to note that these figures only include accidents attended by police and do not account for unreported incidents. The real numbers are likely even higher.

While the data includes details on vehicle types, weather, and accident causes, the reality is clear: accidents are happening regardless of these factors. This intersection is dangerous, and its safety must be addressed.

We ask for: A thorough safety review of the intersection. Immediate implementation of effective measures, such as improved signage, speed reductions, traffic lights, or roundabouts. The time for delay is over. We cannot wait for more injuries – or worse – to occur.
