Fix the unsafe rear drop off at St Louis de Montfort's Primary School, Aspendale, before a child gets hurt.

Every school day, hundreds of families funnel into a narrow, congested street to get their children safely into St Louis de Montfort's Primary School. For most of these families it is not a choice. Reaching the front of the school means travelling via Edithvale Road or through Mordialloc, both heavily congested and currently torn up by roadworks. The rear entrance off Wells Road and Sanctuary Place is the only realistic option, and it was never built to handle the number of cars and children that rely on it twice a day.

The street itself sets families up to fail. It is marked Permit Zone and No Stopping along its full length, with no lawful place for a parent to stop, even for a few seconds, to let a child out of the car. The small drop off area that does exist forces children, some as young as five, to then cross Wells Road and Sanctuary Place on foot with no supervision and no safe crossing point. Add a narrow road carrying far more traffic than it was designed for, and every morning becomes a genuine safety risk, not an inconvenience.

Rather than fix any of this, Council stations a Local Laws officer at this exact bottleneck morning after morning, during the handful of minutes families are trying to get children safely out of cars and into school. Parents already stretched by the cost of living are being issued infringement notices in a location where Council has left them no lawful way to comply. A council that is serious about child safety does not respond to a dangerous, badly designed street by fining the families forced to use it.

We are asking the City of Kingston to:

1. Create a proper drop off area near the rear entrance, clearly signed, with a time limited exemption during school terms, so parents have somewhere lawful to briefly stop.
2. Widen or manage traffic flow on this stretch so it can safely handle school peak periods, not just resident access.
3. Provide a supervised, marked pedestrian crossing at Wells Road and Sanctuary Place so children are not crossing unsupervised.
   Pause infringement notices for brief stops during school drop off and pickup hours while a permanent fix is put in place, and issue warnings.
4. Consult directly with the school and parent community before making further changes to parking or enforcement in this area.

This is not a request to ignore parking rules. It is a demand that Council take responsibility for a street it designed, approved, and is now profiting from at the expense of families with nowhere else to go.
